StoryWars: Battle of the Fables
A new initiative meant that students had a Morning reading programme throughout the year, during which time they read a variety of text-types including fables. Student’s Morning Reading handbooks, distributed at four points during the year, each included at least two fables, sometimes with multiple versions (easier and more difficult) of the same fable.
Accompanying the fables were questions in a variety of formats, designed to boost student’s comprehension skills. As an added incentive, student’s were able to use the QR code to access the Google Form, engaging with the tasks in a digital from in order to gain marks.
Finally, nearer the end of the year, all Form 2 and Form 3 students had the opportunity to participate in the StoryWars competition, which revisited the fables and the questions. Students competed in teams according to class, having a lot of fun and learning along the way.
