YY1 Battle of the Books

04/06/2024

Battle of The Books is a competition designed to encourage our junior students to discover the joy of reading, read more English books, and ultimately improve their English knowledge.

The English Reading Team has spent several months reading all twelve of the books, which cover a variety of topics and genres, from horror to adventure, fantasy to action.

After reading the books, we have held the competition in which teams are quizzed about the books in a fun way: the first semi-final was between the Form 2 students and the second semi-final involved the Form 3 students, with the winners going through to the final.

Ultimately, the worthy champion was Hilda from 3C, as she had been the most avid reader and was able to remember the most details from all the books. The second most avid reader was Alex from 2C, whose team was also the runner-up in the competition. A special shout goes out to Bosco and Joel from 2A, who helped to run the competition and ask the questions.

As well as the Book Battle, there was also a Kahoot competition for the audience members to participate in, answering questions about the books, having fun and winning prizes. This contest was very popular with the audience members, especially the Form 1 students, so hopefully we can see them reading more English books in the future.

Next time, we hope to expand the competition so that we can see more students reading more books, because more reading means more joy and better English!
